Go Daddy Super Bowl ad should be a wake-up call to business owners

The Big Sunday Event

I’m a huge football fan, so watching the Super Bowl is a big event in our house. The food is cooked and the drinks are ready by 5:00 P.M. (30 minutes before kickoff in our time zone) so that we don’t miss a second of the game or the commercials. This year, I loved the Budweiser “Lost Dog” commercial (I’m a huge dog lover), as well as the Snickers Super Bowl ad with Danny Trejo superimposed into a scene from The Brady Bunch.

Go Daddy Super Bowl Ad

Go Daddy has always aired a Super Bowl ad, usually with some kind of sexy teaser. I was pleased to discover this year that they forewent scantily clad women in favor of a business-minded commercial. But as the commercial unfolded, I was intrigued to see that it revolved around a business owner with his head buried at his desk, “unable” to attend Super Bowl parties because he was too busy running his business. It’s a common perception and affliction, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

(In fairness to GoDaddy, they apparently put the ad together in only 24 hours because of the uproar created by their original Go Daddy Super Bowl ad. )

The small business owners of the world do work our tails off to run profitable companies that make a difference in this world. But missing the Super Bowl, missing your kids’ games, missing special moments in life is a time management choice – not something we’re “forced” to do. We make sacrifices, but we have a choice every time we make one. You have a choice every time when it comes to your time management.
