DEA Drug Take Back Day – Dump your old meds legally!

DEA-drug-take-back-day-medications-meds-drugs-pillsGet ready – the next DEA Drug Take Back Day is April 30th!!

I spend a lot of time with clients individually or in groups in my training sessions discussing work place productivity. Part of gaining control of your time at work is making sure that you’re more organized and have fewer worries on the home front. The less baggage you bring from home, the more focus you can have during the work day. Therefore, in addition to being asked about time management, I’m often asked for organizing tips. Since cold and flu season is just about over, it’s perfect timing for organizing your meds.

The DEA offers special collections called National Drug Take Back Day to properly dispose of your medications twice per year, but you’ll have to check to see if organizations and businesses in your area sign up to participate. The next DEA Drug Take Back Day event is coming up on Saturday, April 30, 2016Check for locations here. Dispose of Your Meds Safely

Now if you’re saying to yourself, “Just dump the stuff in the trash!” or “Flush it down the toilet!” you might want to read this brief overview of the issues related to that so-called quick fix (as well as a list of possible solutions). I offer these organizing tips because while the Certified Professional Organizer in me wants to get things done in a hurry, when it comes to the environment, I want to make sure we dispose of unwanted items in the appropriate manner.

If you are able to talk a local pharmacy into having a program set up for daily medicine bottle disposal, please feel free to announce that below in the comments!
