Is Travel Insurance Worth It?

Many moons ago, I used to be dead set against travel insurance. I thought it was a waste of money until about five years ago. I blogged about that mind shift here:

Travel Insurance Part 1

Travel Insurance Part 2

About three years ago, I discovered annual travel insurance plans from Allianz. I’d been directed to Allianz after they saved family friends during a medical emergency while traveling overseas, but I’d only purchased their individual trip plans.

With an annual plan, I can cover all of my travel – as well as my husband’s – for 365 days at a much lower fee than paying for individual trip policies.

After my infuriating experience with American Airlines this year, I’m now an even bigger fan of Allianz travel insurance.

You can read in a prior post about how American Airlines screwed us over. The short version is that American Airlines owed us $1,000+ after cancelling our flights. After five months of American Airlines giving us the run-around and then completely ignoring us, I filed a claim with Allianz. Within 30 days, we received our funds.

Should travel insurance companies have to be responsible for righting the wrongs that airlines willingly commit? No, but that’s part of the reason why they exist. Allianz came through when American Airlines didn’t, so I will sing the praises of Allianz.

If you’re wondering what this topic has to do with productivity and time management, here’s the low-down. People can lose a lot of time trying to right a wrong. I could have saved a heck of a lot of time and stress if I’d gone to Allianz immediately, but silly me, I seriously thought a big corporate behemoth might actually do the right thing. So, to save yourself a whole lot of time and frustration (hey, that’s productive!) look into travel insurance to see if it fits your needs – and contact them immediately when you need help!

It is so darn easy to get knocked off track when you’re so absolutely frustrated at a company like American Airlines that you can’t even see straight – or think straight.
