National Leave the Office Early Day 2025
National Leave the Office Early Day is coming up on Monday, June 2! If you’d like a little background on how National Leave the Office Early Day came about, you can read about that here.
The purpose of this “holiday,” which was created in 2004 by my colleague, Laura Stack, is to encourage hard-working folks like yourself to put your health and well-being first. This means taking time for yourself. It would be ideal if you could do this on a daily or at least weekly basis. But if you haven’t been able to do this for quite some time, National Leave the Office Early Day is for you.
If you’re required to get permission in order to leave work early, I encourage you to do this sooner rather than later – especially if there’s a chance that available PTO slots will fill up. If for any reason the afternoon of June 2 does not work for you to “celebrate” this holiday, check for an available afternoon later that week or the next.
There are different ways people choose to take time for themselves. Some get “task focused” and decide to knock out several personal to-do’s that have been hanging over their heads for awhile because this will help them feel better and get that nagging voice out of their head. Others choose to treat this as fun time.
If you’re not sure what you can do for afternoon fun, here are some possibilities:
*picnic in a park
*go to the zoo
*eat at a restaurant you’ve been wanting to go to
*catch a matinee
*take a nap
*attend a yoga class
*plan your next staycation or vacation
*curl up with a good book
*snuggle with your kids
*snuggle with your pets
*meet up with friends who also want to enjoy work-life balance today
No matter what you decide to do, be sure to set your email auto-responder before you leave work that day.
You deserve to relax for a few hours. Enjoy!
