2024 Holiday Shipping Deadlines
If you’re planning to purchase for loved ones (or yourself!) gifts that need to be shipped, it’s important to be aware of holiday shipping deadlines:
This year, Hannukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and Boxing Day are all within two days of each other, so the holiday shipping timelines for these year-end holidays are the same.
If you want to avoid higher fees, allow a minimum of five business days prior to December 24 for shipping. This means mailing your present by December 17.
Even if you’re ordering from a major shopping website like Amazon or Wal-Mart, which often promise same-day delivery to many areas at non-holiday time, allow extra time for delays such as back orders on popular items and winter weather that disrupts transportation. In our neighborhood, we have to factor in extra time for incorrect deliveries. Every single day in the two weeks leading up to Christmas, there’s a post in our neighborhood group asking, “Did anyone receive my package?!?” The temporary drivers that Amazon hires for the holidays don’t possess the same level of delivery skills as their regular drivers.
So, to play it safe, don’t wait until December 17 to order your items. Make your list, check it twice…and get it done in early December!
Have a wonderful holiday season!
