Is there a way you can make sure that your team is ready for you to be out of the office? Why yes, there is. It’ll be really important that you have a team meeting at least 2 weeks prior in order to touch base with everybody. During this team meeting, which of course you’re going to have an agenda for, you’re going to want to review responsibilities, make sure everybody understands who is doing what by when, so that way the whole team is in the loop and they can support each other.

And they also know what deliverables are needed for anybody else on the team, so that way there’s no confusion. As far as your normal responsibilities, This is also the time to discuss with your team if those responsibilities are going to be on hold while you’re out of the office, or if anybody else on the team is going to be covering them.

So if you can review all of that at least 2 weeks prior, that gives you time before you need to be out of the office to make any course corrections, to make sure any questions get answered, as well as to do any dry runs, especially if somebody is going to be covering your responsibilities and they haven’t done that before.

If you can plan this at least 2 weeks ahead of time, have that chat with your team, then nobody’s going to be worried that you’re out of the office. You’re going to cut back on the likelihood that somebody might need to reach you while you’re out of the office to ask a question, because the team is going to be better prepared for you to leave.

So the next time you want to be out of the office, make sure you have this type of meeting at least 2 weeks prior with your team.
