How to NOT Participate in National Quitters Day
Did you see the Apple Watch commercial that referred to National Quitters Day? Believe it or not, it’s an actual holiday. To be more precise, it is officially registered as one of those “National XYZ Day” observances.
This year, National Quitters Day is on January 10, 2025. It’s held each year on the second Friday in January, which is the typical time that the majority of earthlings quit their New Year’s Resolutions. A 2019 study by Strava found that 80% of study participants quit their goal by the second Friday in January. This was a study of athletes, which doesn’t apply to many of us, but the “quit rate” is similar to other studies, such as those from the University of Scranton, of the average person.
I have seen National Quitters Day renamed to something more positive, like Don’t Give Up Day, but let’s get real. A lot of people fail not just at New Year’s Resolutions but also other goals at any time of the year. Why does this happen? Here are just a few reasons:
- The goal was too broad or overreaching.
- There was no specific target to measure.
- No plan was developed.
- A support system was not in place.
