How Better Decision-Making Boosts Your Productivity
One of the fundamental time management skills that I teach to my individual clients and workshop participants is decision-making. Specifically, we discuss the decision-making skill of prioritization.
In my conversation with Dr. Somik Raha, he explained that in decision science, there are two parts: 1) how do we actually make decisions and 2) how do we make better decisions. This might be a very dry topic to some, but Dr. Raha broke down decision-making into six steps, beginning with being very clear on the question you’re asking yourself before even attempting to come up with a list of possible answers. Here’s an overview of the six steps in decision-making:
1 Be absolutely clear on what the question is that requires this decision.
2 Create a list of options.
3 What information do you know and is it relevant?
- What are your values on which you’ll base this decision?
- How do you integrate this with logic?
- Commit to action.
